Do You Make These Simple Mistakes With Car Window Wipers?
By Vijay Aug 16, 2022
We all know the importance of a clean and clear windscreen. Yet, we often neglect to check whether our wiper blades are in good working condition until we really need them and it’s too late.
Windscreen wipers are among the most essential elements for safe driving. Damaged wipers don’t sufficiently clean your windows, resulting in poor visibility.
This means that in the event of an emergency, you won’t be able to respond fast to avoid oncoming traffic and other road safety hazards.
Other than damaged wipers, here are other simple car window wiper mistakes you’re making and may cost you quite a bit.
Mistake 1 - Ignoring Wiper Blade Replacement

If you fail to replace your wiper blades on time, they won’t be able to thoroughly clean your windscreen. This makes it difficult to drive in bad weather conditions such as rain and snow. It also means your visibility may be impaired by debris, dirt, and other particles that accumulate on your windscreen over time.
Additionally, worn wipers will damage your windscreen.
When the rubber wears off, the blade’s plastic and metal components are exposed. Therefore, when you set them in motion, they rub against the windscreen, leaving marks that eventually become chips or cracks if you don’t take prompt action.
It’s time for a replacement if your wiper blades are making squeaky noises, skipping, or smearing when in use. Reduced visibility is also a tell-tale sign. Ignoring these vital signals means putting your safety at risk.

The best wiper blades boast the below features:
Low-wind lift Aeroflex technology and sleek aerodynamic design to increase performance at high speeds
Premium natural rubber infused with Teflon for a smoother and hushed wiping action
Precision dual-cut blade for less friction and better performance in all weather conditions
Curved internal pre-tensioned steel beam for maximum windscreen contact
Robust frameless construction to prevent corrosion
Here are two indicators that it’s time to get new wiper blades:
1 - Your blades are squealing with each stroke. If your windscreen wipers produce any noise, they’re past their prime and need to be replaced.
The squeals may also be caused by poor rubber quality, a broken or fragile blade edge, or a manufacturing error. In either case, friction is building up between your wipers and the windscreen, so the wipers need to go.
2 - Your wipers are producing shaky scrapes as opposed to smooth wipes. The juddering of the blades is a clear indication that you require replacements. It could imply that they’re the wrong fit for your vehicle or that they’re made using poor-quality material.
Mistake 2 - Purchasing Wiper Blades With Traditional Metal or Hybrid Frame Structures

Wiper blade frame structures are grouped into three main categories—traditional metal, hybrid, and beam blade.
Traditional Windscreen Wipers
Traditional metal-framed windscreen wipers are not the best choice because they perform poorly at high speeds. High-speed winds create more air resistance with the metal frame, which lifts the wipers away from the windshield, leading to poor visibility.
Besides, their metal-backed design makes them vulnerable to rust and corrosion.
Hybrid Wipers
Hybrid metal-framed windshield wipers have an additional exterior plastic casing that helps to reduce rust and corrosion.
They are suitable for vehicles with a flat-shaped windscreen design (2005–2016 Japanese vehicles). Unfortunately, they don’t meet modern design standards because modern cars tend to have larger, curved windshields.
Beam Blade Wipers
If you’re looking for reliability, durability, and the best value for your money, beam blades are your best bet.
Beam blades use a cutting-edge design that includes an exterior plastic shell and a pre-tensioned steel beam. Together, these create a significantly more streamlined and simple profile, resulting in flawless performance at high speeds.
Additionally, the unexposed metal parts prevent rust and corrosion.
Due to their high-tech design, beam wipers are now a common feature on modern vehicles. This means they’re readily available on the market. However, because of their popularity, the market is now flooded with cheap, low-quality imitations.
To ensure you get good quality, high-performing beam blades, always look for ones made with high-quality natural rubber embedded with Teflon and coated with graphite, which reduces friction and is resistant to heat.
Thanks to our quality products and simple buying process, Wipertech has sold over 1.5 million windscreen wiper blades across Australia.

Mistake 3 - Buying Silicone Instead of Natural Rubber Windscreen Wipers

Silicone blades are not durable. Due to their sensitivity to temperature changes, they typically deteriorate faster. During chilly frosts, silicone wipers freeze and become brittle. They eventually degrade when they’re exposed to the summer heat.
On the other hand, natural rubber windscreen wiper blades are now a standard on practically all new vehicles. They’re the most effective and durable wiper blades available, with the least amount of streaking, squeaking, or smearing.
Expert Tip: Not all windscreen wipers made of rubber are created equal. In order to get the best performance, dependability, and safety out of your rubber blades, opt for dual-cut blades made of quality natural rubber that are also Teflon-embedded and graphite-coated.
The following table compares silicone blades and natural rubber blade wipers.
Natural Rubber Blades
- They come as standard in most new cars
- They produce minimal streaking, squeaking or smearing
- They are durable
- They perform well in all conditions
Silicone Blades
- They’re avoided by manufacturers
- They have a tendency to smear and leave a haze
- They are not durable
- Their performance is not consistent
Mistake 4 - Purchasing Wiper Blades Without a Solid Warranty

Buying wipers that don’t guarantee safety, quality, and performance is a waste of money.
However, you shouldn’t rely on dealerships’ empty promises or fall for the limited warranties offered by most brands.
You should only buy wipers backed by a solid warranty. Ideally, one that covers both performance and fitment issues plus protects you for at least a year.
Our warranty will cover you for a full year, starting on the date of purchase. We also have a perfect fit guarantee, which means we’ll gladly arrange a quick and painless swap or refund if our wiper blades don’t fit your wiper arm perfectly.
Our warranty protects you from the following issues:
Broken or split rubber
Damaged or broken wiper blade end caps or connectors
Products that are lost in transit or arrive damaged
Wipers that fail to effectively clear water from the windscreen
Products that don’t fit the specified vehicle correctly
