Do car manufacturers cover wiper blades under warranty?
By Vijay June 15, 2022
If you are one of the lucky ones in today's car market to buy a new car you probably noticed the enticing bumper-to-bumper warranty offered by the car manufacturer. But is the warranty a marketing ploy to get you to sign on the dotted line? or are there items on your new car not covered by warranty?
In this article, we uncover the fine print on automotive car warranties and identify what will NOT be covered under warranty so you will be prepared the next time you get your car serviced at the dealership.
What is a car warranty?
Car manufacturers design new car warranties to cover their customers from any inbuilt factory defects that the car may have within a reasonable amount of time. It does not protect customers from wear and tear on consumable items such as tyres. These items are to be replaced by the owner of the car. Other consumables items include:
- Brakes and Clutch systems
- Filters, rubber and plastic hoses, Belts and Gaskets
- Batteries and Light globes and bulbs
- Fluids such as Oil and coolant
- Accessories such as speakers and audio equipment
What about Wiper blades? Surely the dealer will pay for these?

Wipers will fall under consumable items that the owner will need to pay out of pocket every 12 months to ensure the wipers are in good working order. Suddenly the bumper-to-bumper coverage claim seems questionable.
However, some car manufacturers will cover the cost of wipers as part of their warranty program. Here is a list of manufacturers that will cover wiper blades according to the terms and conditions of the warranty listed on their website.
INCLUDE WIPERS IN THEIR WARRANTY
- Chrysler
(12 months or 20,000 kilometres) - Jaguar
(12 months, dealership discretion) - Jeep
(12 months or 20,000 kilometres) - Land Rover
(12 months, dealership discretion) - Mitsubishi
(12 months or 20,000 kilometres) - Ram
(12 months or 20,000 kilometres) - SsangYong
(12 months or 20,000 kilometres)
DON'T include wipers in their warranty
- Audi
- BMW
- Ford
- Holden
- Hyundai
- Kia
- Mazda
- Mercedes-Benz
- Nissan
- Subaru
- Toyota
- Volkswagen
*12 months or 20,000 kilometres refers to whichever comes first.
For every other car manufacturer, not on this list wiper blades will not be covered and will need to be changed during services.
